Sunday, June 26, 2011
Manhattan Beach, CaliforniaCarlos Alzate of Team Exergy captured the team’s first NRC win at the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix.  Alzate outsprinted a world-class field en route to the victory.  The win is the biggest of Alzate’s 2011 campaign that includes strong performances at the Sea Otter Classic, the Callville Bay Classic, and the Roswell Criterium.
The Manhattan Beach Grand Prix is one of the most storied races in the U.S., and is widely considered the most prestigious criterium in California.  The 2011 race was the 50th edition, and the race lived up to the hype, with nearly 100 racers competing on the challenging course.
Alzate was able to capitalize on the high speeds that shed many of the competitors from contention.  The 28-year-old Columbian was always near the front of the race and was able to stay out of trouble in a race marred by multiple crashes.  Going into the final laps, Alzate was perfectly positioned and was able to secure the victory with a bold move to the front aboard his Felt F1.
