San Dimas, California
— Colin Cares
of the Kenda-Felt
team scored a big early-season result in Southern California over the weekend, finishing second
at round 2 of the Pro XCT cross-country series
in Bonelli Park, near Los Angeles.
Cares rode his Felt Edict
to a podium placing, finishing 20 seconds behind the day’s winner, Ignacio Torres of Mexico, and more than 30 seconds clear of third-place finisher, Canadian Raphael Gagne.
It was a warm sunny weekend in Bonelli Park, located at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, where more than 700 pro and amateur racers competed in cross-country, short track and Super D events. The pro XC races came one week after the March 3 Pro XCT series opener in Austin, Texas.
Cares, a former Under-23 national champion from Colorado, fought hard for his podium placing, battling the heat and a field of nearly 70 men. The following day Kenda-Felt rider Andy Schultz
cracked the top-10 in the pro men’s short track, finishing eighth. Cares finished 10th in the short track.
In women’s racing, Kenda-Felt rider Sage Wilderman
landed two top-10s for the weekend, finishing ninth in the short track and 10th in the XC race.
