Monterey, California — Morgan Schmitt and Matt Cooke of Team Exergy took two of three podium spots at the Sea Otter Stage Race in California. The two put their stamp on the four-day race in the Stage 2 road race, finishing first (Cooke) and second (Schmitt) on their Felt F1 team bikes.
The following day’s TT saw three Exergy riders finish in the top-10: Schmitt was fifth, Logan Loader was sixth and Andres Diaz was seventh. That put Schmitt second in general classification, 15 seconds behind race leader Andy Jacques-Maynes.
The final stage, a 120km circuit race held in the Laguna Seca Raceway, was a battle between Exergy and the Kenda team. There were plenty of attacks as Exergy tried to gain the 15 seconds needed for Schmitt to take the overall win but in the end the GC remained the same: a handful of podium finishes in the stages, with Schmitt and Cooke finishing second and third overall.
In the pro women's race, ExergyTWENTY12 was active all weekend long including a particularly strong finish by Jackie Crowell who grabbed second on the last day. Jackie and eventual winner Alison Powers were able to escape and finish 45 seconds clear of the group.
