San Benedetto del Tronto, ITA - Garmin/Slipstream sprinter Tyler Farrar (USA) ended the 44th Tirreno-Adriatico with an impressive sprint finish taking second only to Mark Cavendish in today's finale. Tyler, who won Stage 3, has rapidly become a marked man when things get dialed-up and is now mentioned in the same breath as all of the world's fastest finishers.
“The guys were amazing for me in the end. Martijn (Maaskant) probably pulled 15km in the wind for me, moving me up, then Julian (Dean) took me to the last few kilometers, it was awesome. They just did so much for me and got me right where I needed to be,” Tyler told VeloNews. “Cavendish just got me today. No way about it, but I’m still pretty happy about it.”
Teammate Ryder Hesjedal (CAN) quietly rode a very big-time race taking 8th in the overall GC including climbing and TT'ing with the best over the seven-day UCI World Calendar (HIS) event.
