Farrar scores podium at Het Nieuwsblad
Saturday, February 27, 2010
Belgium — Garmin-Transitions
rider Tyler Farrar
kicked off his 2010 Spring Classics campaign with a strong third-place finish at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad (formerly Het Volk)
on Saturday. Racing on Belgian cobblestones for the first time this season, Farrar charged to the front of a chase group near the end of the 204-kilometer race, scoring the final podium spot behind Spaniard Juan Antonio Flecha and German Heinrich Haussler.
Racing his Felt F1 SL
on roads he knows well in the hills surrounding his European home in Ghent, Farrar showed great early-season form. His Garmin-Transitions teammates fought hard to put the American team leader in position to battle for the podium at the end of a hard-fought race.
After a flurry of attacks in the final 50 kilometers, Flecha survived a solo break to become the first Spaniard to win the race. Farrar finished near the front of a chase group, 35 seconds back, just behind Haussler. OMLOOP HET NIEUWSBLAD
