Carson, Calif. (October 3, 2008)—The Garmin/Chipotle-H3O Team led by Kilo National Champion Taylor Phinney took the gold medal in the men’s Team Pursuit. The squad featured Phinney, Daniel Holloway, Colby Pearce and Dave Koesel.
Phinney and Pearce are in excellent form, having come off their recent trips to the Olympics. Holloway is a multiple national champion and scored a bronze medal at the U23 National Championship Criterium in August and is enjoying excellent form as well. Dave Koesel is Felt’s road product manager and a Cat. 1 on the road and track.
In turning in their time of 4:21.0 the squad had hoped to ride 16-second laps, which when combined with the start differential (usually about 4 seconds to get up to speed) would have resulted in a time of 4:20.0. It made for an average speed of 55kph—some 34.1 mph! Ultimately, they finished more than 9 seconds ahead of second place.
Dave had this to say of the experience: “It was a pretty remarkable experience to ride with these guys. These are the guys at the top of the ladder. These are my heroes. Two Olympians, a many-time National Champion … and me?”
