Garmin Finishes Second in Tour's Stage 4 Team Time Trial

Tuesday, July 7, 2009
France – The Garmin-Slipstream team powered its way to an impressive second-place finish in Tuesday’s team time trial stage of the Tour de France. Riding their Felt DA time trial bikes, the Garmin squad completed the 39-kilometer stage in Montpelier in 46 minutes and 47 seconds.

With the team’s time trial specialists Dave Zabriskie, Bradley Wiggins and David Millar leading the charge, Garmin exploded out of the start house with a strong start. Four of the team’s riders dropped off the pace, leaving just five, including GC leader Christian Vande Velde, to go the distance. In the team time trial, a format that hadn’t been used in the Tour since 2005, the fifth rider across the finish line marks the team’s official time.

After four stages, Wiggins sits sixth overall in the GC standings, just 38 seconds behind race leader Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland.
