Jones Wins Ironman 70.3 Cancun

Monday, September 21, 2009
Just three weeks before the Hawaii Ironman World Championships, Australian Michellie Jones posted a major victory at the Ironman 70.3 Cancun. The Felt-sponsored Jones was unstoppable, start to finish, in what is considered an important tune-up race before Kona.

The win in Mexico was sweet redemption for Jones. A year ago at Cancun she led for much of the race before she had to pull out with a calf injury. But this year no one challenged Jones as she posted the fastest splits for the swim and the run. German Daniella Sammler came out of the water sixth and steadily moved up to finish second. Australia’s Katherine Elisabeth Baker finished third.
