Zabriskie Finishes 2nd Overall in 2009 ATOC!

Sunday, February 22, 2009
Escondido, CA - In front of huge Southern California crowds the 2009 Amgen Tour of California wrapped an amazing nine days of racing with Garmin/Slipstream's own Dave Zabriskie finishing 2nd overall, just 36 seconds down on winner Levi Leipheimer after almost 31-1/2 hours of total racing.

Today's 97mi final stage began in Rancho Bernardo, made its way up and over the 5800ft snow-capped Mt. Palomar peak before eventually finishing in downtown Escondido.  While the up-and-down took its toll on a large portion of the field, Dave rode comfortably and with the protection of his team never had his overall position threatened.

Between DZ's impressive GC finish, a win in Stage 2 by Tom Peterson, Christian Vande Velde's "Most Courageous Rider" designation, and a 3rd overall in the team competition, the 2009 ATOC - which drew an estimated 2M live spectators during the nine days - must be viewed a total sucess for the Garmin/Slipstream pros!  Congratulations, fellas!
