Irvine, CA (December 13, 2012) – The January 2013 issue of Velo magazine has named Argos-Shimano rider John Degenkolb as the “International Breakthrough Rider of the Year” for 2012 . Degenkolb, 23, from Gera, Germany, completed a scintillating season in 2012 with 12 wins including multiple victories in the Tour of Picardie, Four Days of Dunkirk and an amazing run of five wins during the Vuelta a Espana.
Velo editors were effusive in their praise for Degenkolb’s consistency throughout the season, writing that, “Degenkolb defied the logic that says youth can’t sustain speed for an entire season..”
This acknowledgement of Degenkolb by Velo reinforces his potential as a sprinter to watch prior to the 2013 season, especially for the group finishes in the Tour de France with the addition of his Argos-Shimano team to WorldTour status.
Degenkolb’s Argos-Shimano team opens their 2013 campaign with the team launch in Alta Beach, Spain on January 10-11.
