The first European road race of 2013 was held in France Sunday, and Argos-Shimano was at the front of the action. Riding his Felt F1 team bike, 23-year-old Frenchman Thomas Damuseau made the podium at the Grand Prix Cycliste la Mareillaise, a 148km race in the Marseille region of France.
The field of 142 tackled three categorized climbs, including the Col de l’Espigoulier and the Col de la Gineste. An early two-man break gained a maximum advantage of more than 7 minutes. The duo maintained their lead until the descent of the final climb, the Julhan Les Bastides; they were finally caught by the field with 15km to go.
Several attacks were launched inside the final 10km, but the sprinters’ teams, including Argos-Shimano, reeled them all in for the final dash to the line. Damuseau, a third-year pro from Grenoble, finished third behind fellow Frenchmen Justin Jules and Samuel Dumoulin to earn the podium spot.
