Spain — Argos-Shimano rider Reinhard Janse van Rensburg sprinted his way to a podium finish Sunday at the Clasica de Almeria race in Spain. The South African finished second on the new Felt F Series FRD team bike, just behind the day’s winner, Australian Mark Renshaw.
After a three-man breakaway was caught by the peloton with 50km to go in the 182km race, Rensburg’s teammates went to work setting him up for the final dash to the line.
“The team did a good job keeping me out of the wind,” Rensburg said. “In the final kilometers they got the train in place, and there was a slight headwind so it was a difficult sprint. I am really happy to get back on the podium.”
After that podium performance, Rensburg was in for a change of scenery, as he left sunny Spain to head north for the Belgian classics.
