The Netherlands – Argos-Shimano sprinter Kirsten Wild continued her domination of the Energiewacht Tour stage race Thursday, winning Stage 2 while wearing the yellow leader’s jersey. Wild won the sprint battle from a group of 13, taking her second straight stage win on her Felt F1 team bike.
“It was an animated race with a lot of attacks, but I played it tactically and only countered the most important ones,” Wild said after her win. “In the end I knew it would be a sprint and felt really confident about the win. Self-confidence makes the difference.”
The break of 13 riders, including Wild, made their escape 30km into the 105km Stage 2 from Pekela to Veendam. The group stayed away until the finish, where Wild unleashed her powerful sprint for the victory.
The five-day stage race continues on Friday with a double-stage day that includes a 21km time trial in the morning and a 77km road stage in the afternoon.
