With the help of her Argos-Shimano teammates, Kirsten Wild won her eighth race of the year, this time in Apeldoorn, Holland as she took the 139K Ronde van Gelderland in a high-speed sprint finish.
With 30K to go, the Argos-Shimano women had their work cut out for them as they had to pull back Shara Gillow who’d opened up a 90 gap in a solo effort. Knowing how well Kirsten was racing and finishing this year, the team liked their chances if they could set it up for a bunch finish.
“It was a very tough race,” said Wild. “In the end, we were forced to take control and the whole team, especially Willeke Knol and Amy Pieters, made sure the break was caught and we could prepare ourselves for the sprint. I am really satisfied about our performance today.”
