Felt’s elite triathletes have been on a tear and late July produced some particularly exciting wins for both Mirinda “Rinny” Carfrae (AUS) and Daniela Ryf (SUI) as between them they collected three major international wins in just nine days.
Last week the 2x and reigning Kona Ironman World Champion, Mirinda “Rinny” Carfrae traveled to Bavaria, Germany to compete in the prestigious Challenge Roth event–a long-established race with a very rich history. This was a first for Rinny and in front of massive crowds she made it a memorable one as she out-paced an international world-class field which included among others, Rachel Joyce (GBR), Caroline Steffen (SUI), Yvonne Van Vlerken (NED) and Julia Gajer (GER). Rinny put a total race race together fueled by a great swim, a blazing ride aboard her Felt IA and her trademark run where she sealed the deal in a winning time of 8:38:53. Rinny, who described the event as something close to Kona in scope said, “I think the words of the day are: exceeded expectations! The race itself, the crowds the support, the massive finish line, and also my performance.” She called it a bucket list event and definitely responded with a bucket list performance.
This weekend, fellow Felt athlete Daniela Ryf, the current Ironman 70.3 European Champion, pulled off an improbable double racing and winning both the 5150 European Championships on Saturday then Ironman Zurich on Sunday. Back-to-back wins like this are very unusual in the tri-world, especially when one of the events is a full distance Ironman. In Zurich Daniela tactics included a calculated swim followed by a monster bike leg aboard her IA where she took the lead. An outstanding runner, Daniela built on her lead and by the end finished with a time of 9:13.30–in her first ever full-distance Ironman!
