Middaugh silver’s at XTERRA Worlds; Amberger wins IM 70.3 Port Macquarie

In the wake of Mirinda Carfrae’s and Daniela Ryf’s incredible 1-2 finish in Kona you’d think things would have settled down on the racing front…not so as Felt athletes have a had a fruitful last two weeks across various disciplines.

For the past several year’s Josiah Middaugh (above) has been Felt’s lone wolf on the XTERRA scene and for the same period he has always come up big when it counted. In a hotly contested 2014 World Championship race on the island of Maui, and with a deep international field, Josiah “emptied the tank 50 times” as he put up a huge start to finish effort. Josiah give some up on the swim but, aboard his Edict, went on to pass a total of 33 people on the bike to eventually move into second place going into the run. In the end, eventual winner Ruben Ruzafa would not be caught, and Josiah settled for a well-earned and deserved silver at 2:31:11, just 1:15 back on the winning time.

Fellow triathlete and rising star Josh Amberger (above) collected his first major of the year as he beat out a very strong field to take Ironman 70.3 Port Macquarie in Australia the weeked before last. Josh put together an impressive wire-to-wire race including a 20:49 swim, a 2:12:43 bike, and a 1:19:50 run to take the overall in 3:55.27 just 34 seconds in front of a hard-charging Brad Kahfeldt. Prior to his big win at Port Macquarie, Josh and fellow Felt athlete Ashleigh Gentle doubled at Ironman 5150 Philippines on Bohol Island. It was a great win for each and both raved of the professionalism and enthusiasm of the local organizers and crowd. Both raced their Felt IA’s.

In cyclo-cross news Danny Summerhill has been quietly killing it as he racked up his 3rd and 4th victories of the year in taking the win at Valmont CX the weekend before last and Interlockin this last weekend. His road fitness is clearly carrying into the CX season and we are looking forward to he and the rest of the K-Edge/Felt CX Team and Pro’s Closet CX Team who race in Cincinnati at the Pan American Championships this coming weekend.
