An Automotive Legend Passes On.

The whole Felt HQ was saddened today with the news of Carroll Shelby’s passing; his passion for speed and racing directly mirrored those of many of us here at Felt, and the loss of such a visionary is never easy. Our deepest condolences go out to all the members of the Shelby family.

Felt on the Road- With Dirty Minds. Part 1

The past few weeks have been very busy for the fat tire department here at Felt. Sea Otter, The Whiskey 50, and the Fruita Fat Tire festival all took place in the last three weeks. Needless too say, there were a few scheduling conflicts, but we managed to have a presence at all three events, while fitting a few photo shoots and video shoots before and between each event!

First stop was at Demonstration Forest in Santa Cruz, CA for the first rounds of photo/video shoots. Being lovers for all things outdoor, we decided to rough-it at the New Brighton State Beach campground in nearby Capitola. Roughing-it, for us, was car-camping at this beautiful campground that had running water and showers. Perfect for us, as we are all from Orange County, so we need all the help we can get in “The Wilderness.” Our talent for the shoot were Felt’s two pro Enduro athletes, Casey Coffman and Mason Bond, and SDG/Felt Team Director and XC-crusher David Sheek. Casey and Mason tore it up on their Virtue LTDs while Dave got to be one of the first riders of the all new Edict Nines. For two days, the film/photo teams and these athletes worked their butts off on trail: creating some epic shots together, camping, fighting off racoons, and generally being stoked. We got some really exciting stuff over the course of our shooting, and once we clean it up a bit, should have some exciting stuff to show off soon! Once our shoots were wrapped, we were off to the celebration of sea mammals and cycling known as the Sea Otter Classic:

After all was said and done, Sea Otter was once again a success. The Edict Nine was debuted, our racers crushed it in every discipline, and our booth was hopping! Shimano 11-Speed Dura Ace on the Felt FC?

We were tipped off early this morning about some photos posted on this Korean bike site showcasing what seems to be the new Shimano 11-Speed Dura-Ace built up on one of our FC Framekits. While we can neither confirm or deny that this is in fact the new 11-speed group – we sure like the way it looks…

A Sweet CicLAvia Pit Stop

While you can’t really gauge the effort of a casual ride in terms of zones or watts – I can tell you that the journey from Eagle Rock to cicLAvia’s DTLA epicenter worked up a more than healthy appetite. Lucky for us the oh-so-delicious Babycakes Bakery was mere pedal strokes off the car-free route.

With a seemingly endless variety of vegan and gluten-free goodies we carefully curated a spread of donuts and wonderbuns, ordered up some Stumptown brew, and sat and dined as we reveled in all the positive bike vibes of the day. With happy bellies and fuel in the tank we hopped on our bikes (the Verza Regency & Cafe 3) and rolled back onto Spring St into the flow of awesome bike traffic.

The next CicLAvia is October 14th – we hope to see you there!

More Love from Our Friends in Hollywood

Training for and competing in triathlon is undoubtedly one of the hardest things a person can put their body through. A triathlete’s will to train and compete must be higher than that of almost any other athlete, as the physical and mental stress of racing triathlon is immense. The only people on this planet with a will to succeed larger than that of a triathlete have to be the contestants of the show Hell’s Kitchen. Head Chef Gordon Ramsay puts the contestants through a tremendous amount of pressure, and anyone who can’t hack it is quickly weeded out of the competition. One thing is for sure, Mr. Ramsay knows what he likes, and he is not afraid to point out what he doesn’t like to anyone.

We’re pretty sure being the Head Chef on Hell’s Kitchen is no walk in the park, and know for a fact Mr. Ramsay had to bust his ass to get himself where he is. We recently found out from one of our dealers (Triathlon Lab in Los Angeles) that the same head-down mentality Gordon Ramsay applied to his cooking/tv career is being applied to his hobby of triathlon. Here is a picture of him with his brand-new DA4:

All we can say is, have fun Gordon. With how good you are at crushing spirits on television, we sure wouldn’t want to compete against you in a triathlon, especially with a bike as fast as the DA!

In The Shop: Quiet Week, Hard at Work

We have said this before, but we are actually a pretty small operation given how diverse and wide our line of bikes is. The biggest perks of working in this tight-knit group have to be the open dialouges between departments and the knowledge gained from rapping-out with each other. When things get hectic, though, features like “In The Shop” can suffer, becasue, frankly, it’s just quiet in the shop. Luckily, though, not every ITS feature has to be mechanically based. This week, our feature looks at some of the “shop” aspects of our creative and marketing departments.

Having an entire creative staff on hand here at Felt HQ has always been great, but the best part has been the diversity of creativity each member of the staff has. Many of these marketing and creative employees have a well-developed understanding of photography, and each member has their own unique set of skills and equipments.This resource has been great to tap into when we need photos of products or athletes. If you’re reading this blog, odds are you’ve seen one of our numerous advertisements or catalogs on the web or in print, and most of the time, these ads or catalog shots were done by someone on staff here!

With engineering busy working on their computers, the marketing staff took advantage of a quiet shop to set up a temporary photo studio. Check out a few behind the scenes shots of our latest catalog shoot!

BIKE HOUR!

On March 20^th, 2012, like minded people came together and created a movement that took the world by storm. Their goal was not to change the financial system or up-root leaders in a; instead, everyone hopped on their bike and rode from 6:00pm-7:00pm in the first ever worldwide Bike Hour!

All in all, bikes are what we all live for. Nothing better than spending an hour (at least) doing what we love!
