Argos-Shimano rider Kirsten Wild completed her hat trick in the Qatari desert Friday, winning her third straight stage at the Ladies Tour of Qatar and walking away with the overall title. Once again, the Dutch sprinter proved too much for the competition in the dash to the line—she powered her Felt F1 team bike past Lucinda Brand of The Netherlands and Marta Tagliaferro of Italy to take the win in Doha Corniche.
For the third day in a row, Wild’s Argos-Shimano teammates helped deliver their sprinter to the line, executing a perfect lead-out near the end of the 86.5km stage.
“It was great to be part of this team, and we have great team spirit,” Wild said after the win. “Although there are many new riders on the team, we are already comfortable with each other due to everyone’s professional approach.”
Having won the previous two stages of the four-day race, Wild carried a lead of 3 seconds into the final stage. She gained another second on GC by winning the first intermediate sprint in Friday’s stage. A nine-rider breakaway then formed, but Wild’s Argos-Shimano teammates chased it down in the final circuits, four laps of a 6km course.
With the 4-second GC lead, Wild could have just cruised in to take the overall, but instead she unleashed her winning sprint to take the stage win as well.
Next up for Wild is the UCI Track World Championships. After that, she will rejoin her teammates on the road for the spring classics.
