The Giro d’Italia was not the only major international road race being contested this week.
Belgium – With five days of top-level racing in cold, classically wet Belgian weather, Argos-Shimano’s Tom Dumoulin (shown, behind teammate Will Clarke in today’s final stage) took fifth overall and won the Best Young Rider competition in this year’s Tour of Belgium. Tom, at just 22, has become one of the top emerging young pros with a deep skill set and particularly good time trialing skills. In fact, it was Tom who finished second only to World TT Champion Tony Martin two days ago in the race’s stage 3 15K TT. This is an area of his racing he has worked particularly hard on and, along with teammate Warren Barguil, spent two days with Felt at the San Diego Wind Tunnel back in November to hone his TT position.

Germany – Meanwhile, Simon Geschke took fifth overall in the classic German 5-day stage race, Bayern-Rundfahrt. Simon and his teammates rode consistently throughout and in the end it was a very close event with a number of tight stages. Simon’s total time was just 33sec off the winning time total time of just under 20hrs.
