Italy – ExergyTWENTY16’s Mara Abbott, riding for the US National Team, leads the 2013 Giro Rosa after impressively winning back-to-back stages Thursday and Friday.
In yesterday’s 73k affair which including a 14k category 1 climb, Mara took over moving away from the splinted field and eventually finishing 1:44 ahead of her nearest rival to take the overall pink jersey away from reigning World Champion, Marianne Vos. It was an impressive show of strength and will by Mara, the 2010 overall winner of this same race.
In today’s 121k Stage 6, Mara further reinforced her dominance, again winning alone and now holds a full 22:25 lead over second-place Fabiana Luperini of Italy. With two days remaining you can bet Mara and her teammates will be set on protecting the overall lead.
