Italy – Mara Abbott, Team ExergyTWENTY16 pro riding for the US National Team has won the 2013 Giro Rosa. The 8-day UCI category 2.1 event is one of the most prestigious in pro women’s racing and 2013 marks the second time (2010) Mara has won it overall.
With convincing back-to-back solo wins in stages 5 and 6, Mara went into today’s final individual TT with a 2:28 lead. Knowing she would be giving some of that up, Mara dug deep losing less than a minute to her nearest rival in the GC to take the overall by 1:33. It was a tremendous team win not just for Mara’s ExeregyTWENTY16 teammates Kristin McGrath, Lauren Tamayo and Andrea Dvorak, but the entire USA Cycling squad!
