Carson, CA – The 2013 USA Cycling Timed Track Cycling National Championships took place over the weekend and when it was all over, Felt athletes walked away the lion’s share of wins over the four-day event.
In the Men’s Kilometer, also known as the “Killermeter” in race circles, 20yr-old Matt Baranoski, aboard his TK1, took the win in a 1:03.145 on the Velo Sports Center’s indoor 250M facility. Fellow Felt athlete Kevin Mansker raced to second with a 1:04.209.
In the Omnium, a 6-event combined total race which includes three timed events and three mass start events, it was ExergyTWENTY16’s Cari Higgins who took the title in a very close battle with Kim Geist which came down to the very last race. For Cari, who doubles as the team’s Junior Development Coach, it was her 15th (!) National title. In the Men’s Omnium, third-year rider Jacob Duehring (above) raced exceptionally well over the two-day period to take second only to US track veteran Bobby Lea. Jacob continues to impress as he climbs the ranks of the US track scene.
In the team competitions, all of the same riders above had something additional to talk about. Jacob Duehring earned his first US National title as member of Team Three+One and along with Liam Donoghue, Stefan Roothe and Mike Zagorski took the 4k Men’s Team Pursuit gold with a winning time of 4:30.540. In the women’s competition of the same, Higgins along with ExergyTWENTY16 teammates Alison Tetrick, Erica Allar and Jessica Prinner (above) grabbed silver in just their second-ever Team Pursuit together. Finally, Baranoski, Mansker and Nate Koch raced to the Men’s Team Sprint title under their composite name, Team Felt. (below)
A hearty congratulations to all and good luck at Massed Start Track Nationals in less then two weeks!
