Felt’s elite triathletes had another prolific racing weekend this time winning two prestigious events on two different continents–each in different styles.
The action in San Francisco, CA was the famed Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon and this year featured three of Felt’s finest: the Aussie trio of Mirinda Carfrae, Ashleigh Gentle and Josh Amberger. A relatively short distance event at just over two hours, it seemed well-suited to Ashleigh early on as she got through the swim and first transition nicely to enter the bike leg a close second behind Lauren Goss and virtually in-step with Leanda Cave. A great bike ride of 52.33–where she chose to use her AR FRD vs. a traditional tri set-up such as her IA–positioned her for an exciting run. In the final leg, Ashleigh, coming off a career-best 2nd in the WTS Japan event just a couple of weeks ago–produced a pro woman best time of 46.03 to take victory just 15sec ahead of Goss. Reigning and 3x Kona Ironman World Champion Mirinda Carfrae (below) came in 3rd, an outstanding result for the long-distance specialist, especially in early June.
In the men’s race, it was Josh Amberger (below) with his trademark strong swim and blistering bike that saw him lead out of the water followed by extending on it as he rode away aboard his IA. Alone in front out of T2 he knew it would be close, however ultimately in the end he gave up three spots to finish a very respectable 4th. Looking ahead, with each passing race and as his run continues to improve, this young talent gets closer to being considered among the world’s best.
In Switzerland, the seemingly unbeatable Daniela Ryf added yet another victory to her palmares as she took Ironman 70.3 Switzerland in a wire-to-wire win. Her times included a 24:00 swim, 2:17.17 bike and 1:24.03 run for a 4:08.43, over 18min ahead of her nearest competitor.
